The green gourmet – great DIY project for those of you who cook!

Like cooking with fresh herbs but no room for an herb garden in your house? Here’s a fun Hohm design project that helps you reuse bottles and grow your own herb garden. And as a bonus, you can test a few bottles of wine to find the best ‘planter’ first! You could use beer or other bottles as an alternative!

Wine Spice

The steps are pretty easy to follow –

1. Finish off a bottle or two of your favorite wine (my favorite part), or you can ask a friend to save theirs if you’re not keen on wine.

2. Clean the bottles out

3. Cut off the bottom of the wine bottle (Here’s on way)

4. Find some fun wine corks or use the cork that the bottle came with. These will be used to plug the bottom of the wine bottle (which use to be the top).

5. Connect the wine bottle to a sting or any kind of lanyard that you prefer. By using a clasp around the nick of the bottle or a wall mounted bottle holder.

6. Fill the bottle up with dirt, mulch or a specific type of soil that you prefer

7. Plant your favorite spices

8. Find a, key rack, coat hanger,  window seal, or just about any place that you would like to display your new found home decoration.

Today’s post is part of the Hohm Design series featuring DIY projects that reduce, reuse, recycle and/or help you improve your home’s energy efficiency while making it more beautiful/interesting. If you have project suggestions or requests, please include in the comments. This idea came from the Fun Times Guide – Wall mounted vases from empty wine bottles.
