Utility Connections Coming Soon!

Microsoft Hohm has announced launch partnerships with Puget Sound Energy, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Seattle City Light, and Xcel Energy. If you are a customer of one of these utilities, your usage data will be available to you through Hohm in the near future. Microsoft is working closely with these partners to enable users to view their electricity and gas usage data through the Hohm service. These automated feeds will let users analyze their energy consumption and track their improvements over time. We will update users on feed availability through our Facebook fan page, Twitter and our blog. Today customers of these utilities can receive recommendations and monitor energy usage by entering their utility data manually.

We are establishing partnerships with additional utilities – if you like to get automated data feeds from your utility let us know and we will inform your provider.

when can we see fortis power from BC on the list?
or the city of penticton, bc?
meanwhile, why not just clamp an inductive meter to the incoming power and let my computer do the datacrunching!
will you make it possible for people to read their own power this way?

looking forward to your connecting up with PGE & NW Natural Gas, here in Portland -- hey, we're pretty much the green capital of the NW!

and pretty soon you'll need to provision for info about all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, too.  :)

You point out you are interested in learning about other utilities whose customers would like to participate in Hohm.  I am a customer of Exelon's Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) utility and already have a smart meter and would very much like to participate.

This is so important as the convergence of new energy power and new communications technology converge and integrate. Presumably we will soon have upgrades to the grids allowing 2 way fast broadband speeds for broadband over power lines and get around the high duplication of costs for HDTV and Computers along with inflated, slow Telco and Cable providers fees. Where is the integrated set top box for everything and the rebate check in the mail for being an energy saver and/or reseller back to the grid? Energy auditors are a growing field. Incentives to buy manufactured goods from your own region would help even out an unfair trade environment.

Would love to see a partnership with Ameren UE in Missouri!

I would like to be able to download my usage data from Georgia Power and Mxenergy.

Any idea when Seattle utilities are going to come online? "Coming Soon" is starting to sounds kinda stupid.

    Thanks,
    Carson

What about utilities on the east coast - PSE&G of New Jersey?  For 2009, state of NJ has an excellent incentive/rebate program for insulating and sealing homes and installing energy efficient appliances in addition to the $1500 (max) federal tax rebate.

I would like to see Skamania PUD in Stevenson, WA get connected.
They should be easy to work with as they are a small PUD.

    Thanks,

Hi.  I'm a PSE customer and also am member of a community organization  that is working to dramtically reduce energy consumption on Bainbridge Island, WA.

Our Community Energy Task Force involves local citizens, local community groups, the City of Bainbridge Island, and Puget Sound Energy.

One of our projects is the "Island Energy Meter".  PSE has agreed to develop a Web Service to our specs that will provide a real-time data feed of energy demand (MVA, MW, kVAR) from each of the three electrical substations on the Island.  Added together, we can plot the Island's energy demand in real-time, on displays mounted in strategic Island locations.  A local workgroup of our Task Force is taking on the display server and digital signage aspect of this project.

In the spirit of "Think Globally, Act Locally", an interesting thing to do would be to juxtapose home energy use with the Island energy use.  Can we work with Microsoft Hohm to do this?  I could imagine hooking Hohm to the PSE Web Service (or we can proxy a filtered/decimated version on our service) to MS Hohm to provide a dedicated web version of the Island Energy Meter.  Or, MS Hohm could merge the home data and Island Data onto a single graph.

Please feel free to contact me at email address I supplied or 206-354-3459

PSE was annouced in the 6/27 press release as a launch partner.  When will they actually be providing data?

Any plans to partner with Con Ed in New York City.  We pay the third highest rates in the country and it was just announced that our utility rates are going up again?  Also, will this be usable by people who live in apartments, who only pay for electrical outlets, not gas, hear or hot water?

I would like to see Vectren and Dayton Power & Light in the Ohio area.

I am not sure why we need to wait for a public utility to snag the electric and gas usage data and then delay giving access.  I have a GE Smart Meter for both Electricity and Natural Gas, they do communicate via wireless protocol.

Holm should interface with home-based technology (energy hub?) that gathers the real-time usage info directly from these meters.  And in the future, Holm should gather furnace/cooling/HVAC usage info from the new smart thermostats that are zigbee interoperable.

    I can dream, can't I?
